Guidance for Businesses on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are writing to provide guidance related to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. The Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce has been working closely with our community partners to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 within our region. The following links will take you to the current guidance available for businesses from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state of Michigan, and the Berrien County Health Department:

Several aspects of this illness pose challenges. First, there is no vaccine available and thus no immunity to this strain in the community. Secondly, the initial symptoms can resemble many other respiratory illnesses which are common at this time of year. Additionally, there is no widespread or rapid testing for this disease available. The focus must be on prevention, and containment when it arrives in our region.

The Greater Niles Chamber of Commerce would like to encourage all area businesses to devote heightened attention to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning protocols. Recommended measures that you might want to consider implementing include making hand sanitizer, disposable wipes, and no-touch disposal receptacles available and accessible; and, changing the seating/waiting/greeting "architecture", wherever the public might congregate, to allow for six feet of social distancing.

If you or one of your team members are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, schedule a free health screening through Spectrum Health by calling their COVID-19 hotline: (616) 391-2380. (If you are experiencing severe or life-threatening symptoms, please call 911.)
